The city is the perfect destination for a day trip. Cherry Blossom Light-up along Shingashi River made Kawagoe perfect tourist destinations all around Spring in Japan.
Kawagoe is often referred to as "Little Edo" because the main street is said to retain the ambiance of the town during the Edo Period (1603-1867), and also known for its local speciality of sweet potatoes and strong history of trading. During the Edo period (1603-1867), Kawagoe had a thriving trade distributing goods to the ever-expanding government seat of Edo (now Tokyo), just a few miles downriver. Everything from candy and sake to lumber and tobacco was produced, stored and sent on boats down the nearby Iruma River.
