The water palace was built in 1948 and has a number of large pond areas with lots of various Hindu statues. The name Tirta Gangga means 'water from the Ganges' which is the large river in India which the Hindu worshipers use for cleansing their bodies.
The place is 83 km from Denpasar. Travelers need 3 hour journey from Denpasar to Tirta Gangga. There is a large bus station in Denpasar and a lot of buses ply between the two places regularly. Known for its extreme rural beauty, the place holds a special place of reverence for the Hindu Balinese people and the water garden incorporates a unique architecture with Balinese and Chinese styles.
