The Met Cloisters.
It is a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
It's like a medieval castle plopped down in Manhattan. Awesome views of the Hudson River. The focus is on medieval art but the numerous religious pieces give it a strong spiritual feel as well. A very intimate and relaxing place. The architectonic of the building is awesome, and the park (Fort Tyron) where is located is beautiful and by the Hudson river. It is surprising that so many New York regulars have never even heard of it. In short, a treasure to visit.
Take the A train to 190th Street and exit the station by elevator. Walk north along Margaret Corbin Drive for approximately 10 minutes or transfer to the M4 bus and ride north one stop.
